Elon Alum Ryan Vet’s New Book “Speak Goodr” Hits USA Today Bestsellers List

Elon University alum Ryan Vet ’13 has made the USA Today Bestsellers List with his latest book, “Speak Goodr: Confessions of a Professional Speaker on Mastering Public Speaking and Getting Paid to Speak.” Unlike his previous works, Vet infused humor into this book, moving away from a traditional step-by-step guide.

“I tried an almost ‘Three Stooges’ slapstick style or ‘The Office’ sarcasm,” Vet explained. “If you read the book out loud, it sounds just like I would speak. Writing it helped me become a better speaker and writer.”

Vet’s passion for public speaking began during his time at Elon University, where he spoke about leadership to high school groups and professional organizations. After graduating in 2013, he co-founded The Oak House in downtown Elon and has since held executive leadership roles, advisory board positions, and spoken internationally. He also serves on the Elon University Alumni Advisory Board and the Doherty Center Advisory Board.

“Speak Goodr” shares humorous and unexpected experiences from Vet’s speaking career, including a chaotic conference presentation where a failing stage, flashing monitors, and an AV technician unexpectedly interrupting his speech made for an unforgettable moment.

Despite the challenges of public speaking, Vet emphasizes the importance of focusing on the core message.

“The reason you’re on stage—whether in a boardroom, at a corporate event, or a conference—is because someone believes you have something valuable to share,” he said. “Even if your message reaches just one person, you’ve done your job.”

“Speak Goodr” is available at major retailers and online.
